Highwood

History

Highwood sits at the top of the Skokie ravine, the highest point between Chicago and Milwaukee. Along the Green Bay Trail, Potawatomi lived in the area until the 1833 Chicago Treaty. Irish and German immigrants were originally attracted to Highwood as construction workers on the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad.

Attractions and Events

Everts Park is the outdoor events venue of Highwood Illinois. All the festivals are free and all benefit various charities. Some of the creative activities include Redhead Days, family-friendly activities for redheads in particular and fun-lovers in general; Inferno Fest, which features the hottest and spiciest foods and beverages; North Shore Taco Fest, which -- in addition to the taco-centric food -- features a 5K taco run, live music, and carnival rides; and Bloody Mary Fest, which has almost two dozen bloody mary vendors. Celebrate Highwood’s mission is to better the community through events and festivals. These activities help create a cohesive community by allowing neighbors to come together to work toward specific goals with and for our national and local charity partnerships. The events and festivals also help promote the area as a wonderful place to live, eat, work and play. All monies raised through our activities are donated to local and national charitable organizations.
